Lucille A. Wimett, 78, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, in Missoula, after her seven-year battle with cancer. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Lucille was married to Bill Wimett and they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Bill honored his wedding vows and cared for and loved our mother in sickness as in health. He devoted his life to making sure she was comfortable and happy throughout her battle with cancer.

Lucille was born in Carrington, N.D., on April 24, 1929, to Emmett and Helen Carroll.

She was a member of the band, loved history and academics. Helen often described Lucille as a bright student who excelled and loved learning. The Carroll family moved from Carrington to Missoula where Lucille's dad started an auto mechanic garage (where the current Sound West is located). Lucille, at age 18, attended secretarial school and worked at Interstate Lumber.

She met Bill Wimett, who was raised in the Bitterroot Valley, and they married when Lucille was 21 at a family home in Missoula. Lucille and Bill raised five children together.

She devoted her life to her family, which she said up to her death was her greatest joy and achievement in life.

In addition to family, Lucille loved her country and had a strong interest in politics. She wanted to witness the eradication of poverty in America and she hoped and prayed that the world would see an end to religious and racial strife.

Lucille is "reunited in heaven" with her son Mark, her mom and dad, sisters and brothers, and all the loved ones who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; and children, Bill, Bob and Lisa, Barbie and Don Creveling, and Jacquie and Tim Gaertner; and her grandchildren, Tom, Jeff, Matt, R.J., Lindsay, Jordan, Josh, Bridger and Colter.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the University Congregational Church in Missoula, followed by a celebration of her life at the Linda Vista golf course in Missoula. Service and celebration are open to all who knew and loved Lucille.

In lieu of flowers or gifts please make donations to the following organizations in honor of Lucille: Poverello Center, Hospice of Missoula, and the cancer center at St. Patrick's hospital.
