Barbara J. Herman, 65, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Libby.

Barbara was born July 16, 1942, to Harley and Metta (Coats) Hawks at Hornel, N.Y., was raised and educated in the Wellsville, N.Y., area. She had resided in Detroit and later in western Washington before coming to the Libby area in 1972.

She had been employed by Burns Security as a guard at W.R. Grace and Co. while in the Libby area.

A person who enjoyed the land, Barbara liked to hunt, fish and garden and also enjoyed sewing, canning and cooking. She loved her family deeply and is remembered by them as a person who had an affinity for "taking in" stray animals.

Barbara was preceded in death by husbands Joseph Weinman and Harold Hewson.

Surviving are her children, James Weinman and wife, Ruby, of Libby; Donald Weinman, also of Libby; Leo Weinman of Sterling, Colo.; Darlene Goucher and husband, Newt; and Tina Dunkel and husband, Lee, of Bozeman; brothers, Arnold Hawks and Larry Hawks, both of Wellsville, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson and Vial Funeral Home chapel, with interment services afterward at Milnor Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
