Kindergarten sign-up begins

Schools across the Flathead Valley already are gearing up for next fall and this week begin registering next year's kindergarten classes.

Full-day classes are available at most public schools. West Valley and Swan River schools offer only half-day programs.

Parents may choose to send their children for half a day even if schools provide full-day kindergarten.

To be eligible for registration, children must be 5 years old by Sept. 10. Birth certificates and immunization records are required at the time of registration.

A list of kindergarten roundup dates follows:

. Cayuse Prairie, 8:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Monday. Call the school at 756-4560 extension 10 to schedule an appointment.

. West Valley School, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Call the school at 755-7239 for more information or to set up an appointment.

. Kalispell Public Schools, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Flathead City-County Health Department. Call Patty Fisher, enrollment clerk, at 751-3430 for further information.

. Olney-Bissell School, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Call the school at 862-2828 for more information or to set up an appointment.

. Creston School, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Call the school at 755-2859 to set up an appointment.

. Glacier Gateway and Ruder Elementary schools, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. April 14 and 15, at the Columbia Falls School District's administration office board room, 501 Sixth Ave. W. Appointments aren't necessary. Parents need not bring children unless they want their children screened for speech and/or hearing.

. Lakeside Elementary School, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 14 and 15. Child Find screenings for children 5 years old and younger also will be available. Call the school at 844-2208 to schedule an appointment.
