Libby, Polson roll; Whitefish wins in softball

LIBBY - Nickole Lapka had a perfect day at the plate and drove in four runs to power Libby to an 11-1 nonconference softball victory Saturday over Timberlake High School from Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Lapka, who went 3-for-3, tripled in the first inning to drive in one run.

She came back with a double in the second to score three runners. Lapka also doubled on her other trip to the plate.

Libby led 10-0 after two innings.

"She hit the ball hard today," Libby coach Dean Thompson said of Lapka. "Their pitcher threw well."

Libby, 3-0, has scored 10 or more runs in each outing to date.

The Loggers finished with 10 hits. Laice Dedrick doubled along with Alysha Martin. Dedrick had three RBIs and Martin two.

Libby is back in action Friday hosting Havre.

BROWNING - It was offensive.

Polson blasted Browning twice in a Western A doubleheader.

The Pirates belted 20 hits in the first game and came back with 24 more in the second outing.

Sarah Newton and Charlee Jensen both homered for Polson in the opener. Newton's blast came in the first inning on her second at-bat in the inning. She tripled the first time up.

Jensen's shot came in the second inning.

On Friday, Polson topped Havre 8-0 and 14-1.

"The kids had fun hitting the ball," Polson coach Larry Smith said.

"That's what this bunch likes to do."

HAVRE - Whitefish broke into the win column for the first time this season, taking a Western A doubleheader from Havre.

Torey Ost pitched the Lady Bulldogs to both victories, fanning six in the opener and seven in the second game.

Devyn Ost slammed a two-run homer in the third inning over the center-field fence in the first game. It was her first varsity home run.

Havre scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings in the second contest. Whitefish then pulled it out with two runs in the top of the ninth.

Devyn Ost scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a single, stealing second and advancing to third on Shelbi Long's single.

Long cross home plate on a fielder's choice by Taylor Ybarra-Brunty.

"The girls battled very hard," Whitefish coach David Dachs said. "Very few errors in both games, they were playing really well.

"Torey pitched fantastic," he added. "The girls are feeling very good about what they did today and they should."
