Susan M. Samuel, 61, of Kalispell, passed away April 3, 2008, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Sue was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Edward and Jeanette (Marrs) Panter.

She married Tom W. Samuel Jr., Feb. 14, 1970, in Oswego, Ore. They later moved to the Flathead, in 1977. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. She ran a number of small businesses: The Cork and Cracker, Katie O'Kellys, and Samuel Design.

She was actively involved in her church and Bible Study Fellowship - of which she had been a substitute teaching leader for the last 12 years. Sue devoted her life to others and was well known for her warm gift of hospitality. Besides sharing in the life of her husband Tom, Sue mentored and took under her wing many young women who often came to her for counsel.

Sue was an accomplished painter, photographer and cook. She enjoyed giving painting lessons to young girls in her church. Her great care and passion for people was evidenced by all with her keen ability to make each person feel at the center of her attention. All through her illness, Sue continued to care and minister to others, without complaining of her own illness.

Sue was preceded in death by her father; mother; her younger sister, Jacqueline P. Dahlquist; and her beloved grandmother, Pearl Marrs.

She is survived by her husband, Tom W. Samuel Jr.; her daughter, Kate Anderson and husband Tim; her son, Tom W. Samuel III and wife Andrea; her mother-in-law, Catherine J. Samuel; and four grandchildren, Grace S. Anderson, Emma K. Anderson, Joshua T. Anderson, and Abigail J. Samuel, all of Kalispell.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 12, at Easthaven Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd G. Pierson of Faith Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. A reception will follow the service at Faith Covenant. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 13, at Fairview Cemetery on Middle Road.

The family suggests donations be made in Sue's name to Hope Pregnancy Ministries, 940 First Avenue East, Kalispell, MT 59901. (www.hopepregmin.org.)
