Libby pushes win streak to 5 games

LIBBY - Libby pushed its win streak to five games Friday as the Loggers swept Havre 8-2 and 13-0 in Western A softball action.

Brooke Hageness was the winning pitcher in both contests and belted a grand slam home run in the second inning of the second game. It was her first homer of the season and cleared the center- field fence, which is 200 feet from home plate.

Hageness (5-0) checked Havre on four hits in the opener. She fanned seven batters and issued just two walks.

Hageness pitched the first three innings of the second game, giving way to Laice Dedrick, who finished up.

Dedrick homered in the sixth inning, also over the center-field fence, in the first game with one runner on. It was her second homer of the season. She also doubled in the first and fifth innings and went 4-for-4.

Libby had nine hits in the first game, but finished with 14 in the second.

Nickole Lapka went 3-for-4 in the second game for Libby. Teammate Jordan Refsland had two hits and three RBIs.

"The girls started out a little bit slow," Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

"We hit the ball, but Havre came through and played great defense. Their outfielders played us well."

The Loggers committed just one error on the day.

Libby (5-0 overall, 3-0 league) entertains Browning today for a league doubleheader starting at noon.

Havre has a doubleheader today starting at noon at Columbia Falls.
