Flathead, Glacier split road games in softball

| April 13, 2008 1:00 AM

The Daily Inter Lake

HELENA - Flathead earned a split in Western AA softball play Saturday, falling to Helena Capital 9-0, but bouncing back to top Helena High 5-1.

"That was pretty ugly," Flathead coach Dale Beerman said of the Bravettes showing against Capital.

"They got five (runs) in the first inning. It got uglier from there."

Flathead had just three hits in that contest and Heather Haegele had two.

"We just didn't hit the ball very well," Beerman said.

Flathead did rebound in fine fashion, ripping 11 hits in the victory over Helena.

Meagan Hash, Shaina Evans, Anna Costa and Justine Hayes had two hits each for Flathead.

The Bravettes scored one run in the first and fifth innings and three in the fourth.

Hash checked Helena on six hits.

Flathead, 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league play, plays a doubleheader at Hellgate on Thursday.

Against Capital, Glacier led 1-0 and 3-1 before the Bruins roared back.

Lindsey Hoffenbacker doubled in the second inning and scored on Sabrina Kenfield's double. Kristen Storle's sac bunt moved Kenfield to third. She scored on a fielder's choice, putting the Wolfpack on top 3-1.

"It was a good day," Glacier coach Joel Bemis said.

"We feel pretty fortunate to come out of there with a split. That first game, we didn't have a whole lot of offense. Our girls hung on, played great defense, only gave up one run on seven hits."
