Mariners, Lakers split twin bill

POLSON - The Kalispell Lakers' Austin Roehl started his American Legion baseball season off with a bang Sunday afternoon.

Roehl connected for a grand slam in the second game of a nonconference doubleheader to lift Kalispell over the Class A Mission Valley Mariners 19-9.

Brian Andrews also had a two-run homer for the Lakers in that game.

Mission Valley, behind Tim Rausch's triple and three RBIs, won the first game 9-6.

Eric Locke also had a two-run homer in the second game - on the first pitch he looked at in the first inning.

The Mariners (1-1, 0-0) are off now until Saturday when they head to Eureka for the Ranger Rendezvous.
