Emma Edith McCartney, 97

Emma Edith McCartney, 97, passed away Sunday, Aug.10, 2008, at Lakeview Care Center in Bigfork. Emma was born Jan. 28, 1911, in Port Townsend, Wash., to Arthur and Elsie Sullivan. She moved with her family at a very young age to Great Falls, where she attended schools, graduating from Great Falls High School.

Emma married Oran McCartney on July 12, 1930, in Great Falls. Oran passed away in 1962.

Emma attended nurses training at Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, when she was in her 50s. She worked as a nurse at Fort Benton, and at Hot Springs up until she retired.

She moved to Lakeside in 1941, where she lived for most of the rest of her life.

Emma loved gardening; she even had a poppy named after her. She enjoyed playing cards, and had loved the Senior Center.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Keller, of Kalispell; a son, Gordion McCartney, of Kalispell; a sister, Eva Wattnem, of Helena; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Aug. 13 at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
