The final night produced a couple of winners.

James Irish turned in an 85-point ride on Royal Visit to claim the saddle bronc riding title Saturday during the final performance of the Northwest Montana Fair PRCA Rodeo at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.

°°Great bucking horse,°± Irish said.

°°That°¯s the kind you love to be on. You get off, hear the score of 85, and then the crowd goes wild. That°¯s one of the reasons you ride bucking horses.°±

There were only five entrants Saturday in the saddle bronc and Irish was the lone cowboy to cover an eight-second ride.

It turned out to be a rough go for the majority of saddle bronc and bareback riders in the three-day event.

Only two cowboys made the pay window in the saddle bronc as Josh Reynolds of Corvallis posted an 82 on Friday.

There were no qualified rides opening night °ª Thursday.

There was no bareback riding Saturday, so Troy Solomon won it with his 85 points from Friday. Scott Owens of Toston finished second, 81. He posted that score on Thursday.

There were only six successful rides in that event.

And it was limited duty in another event °ª team roping °ª with just four up Saturday. Kyle Greany, of Plains, and Tim Garrison, of Divide, turned in the best time °ª 11.9 seconds °ª but the winning time (6.0 seconds) came Friday night °ª Derick Fleming of Worden and Justin Viles of Cody, Wyo.

Overall, this year°¯s rodeo had fewer entrants than a year ago. The culprit °ª high fuel prices.

°°It°¯s hurting a lot of people right now,°± Irish said.

°°If you don°¯t win, you don°¯t go down the road. You pick and choose.°±

The other events, °ª barrel racing, bull riding, steer wrestling and tie-down roping °ª however, were well represented.

Brett Crump, who now calls Lewistown his home, tied for first place in bull riding with an 84-point go on Whirl Ride on Saturday.

Kyle Schoenig of Missoula turned in an 84 on Thursday.

And Cody Ohl of Hico, Texas, finished off the rodeo Saturday, winning tie-down roping with a quick time of nine seconds.
