Richard Thomas Seddon, 64

Richard Thomas Seddon, 64, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, of multiple myeloma. Richard was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Thomas and Alice Seddon.

Richard achieved his bachelor's degree in history from Peru State College in Peru, Neb.

He married Carol Broeder in 1965 in Bigfork.

In 1968, he entered the U.S. Army and served one tour of duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1970.

Richard then started working for the Kalispell Fire Department, retiring in 2001 as fire marshal.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Richard served as secretary-treasurer of the State Firemen's Association for 18 years, and eight years with the Fire Service Training School Advisory Council. He also served a term on the board of directors of the Kalispell Golf Association and served as president for two years. During the summers, he volunteered and assisted at the muscular dystrophy summer camps.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Seddon; father-in-law, Gordon Broeder; and a brother, James.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol, of Kalispell; mother-in-law, Hazel Broeder, of Kalispell; daughter, Tanya, and husband, Jason Kirchner, of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; brother, Samuel Seddon, of Loveland, Colo.; and the extended Carl and Broeder families.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Northridge Lutheran Church, with a reception afterward at the Kalispell Fire Department Station No. 62, 255 W. Reserve Loop (just behind Costco on U.S. 93).

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2070 Overland Ave., Suite 101, Billings, MT 59102; or the charity of your choice.
