Grant 'Scott' Westphal, 69

Grant "Scott" Westphal, 69, of Missoula, passed away Nov. 23, 2008, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Livingston-Malletta & Geraghty Funeral Home in Missoula. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Western Montana Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.

Upon graduation from Flathead High School, Scott enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After basic training, he was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California, in the SAC unit.

He spent a year in Monaco before returning to Travis Air Force Base where he met his future wife, Barbara Roteler. They were married June 4, 1960, in Reno, Nev., the same day that he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. The couple moved to Kalispell a week after their marriage and made their home here. The couple moved to Missoula in 1964, where they have resided since.

Scott worked as an automobile repairman for over 30 years in Missoula and retired in 2005. He was a member of the local Machinist Union No. 1434 for several years.

Scott enjoyed being a member of the Wednesday Night Construction Bowling League for 30 years.

Scott and Barbara enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling and weekend barbecues. Scott also enjoyed the daily coffee club with his friends at the Exxon in Milltown.

Scott was a loving husband and father for 48 years. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by a stepson, Kenneth Jay.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, and a daughter, Peggy Jean, both of Missoula; a daughter, Lynnette Marie, in Willmar, Minn.; and a son, Kenneth Grant, of Missoula.
