Hoop, mat, swim seasons begin

The winter sports seasons get under way tonight with basketball and wrestling.

Flathead hosts Lake City High School from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in a nonconference basketball doubleheader. The girls play at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 8.

On the mats, Glacier and Flathead have dual meets at Butte, 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.

Whitefish opens the wrestling season at home, hosting Ronan, 5 p.m., and Columbia Falls, 7:30.

Eureka's wrestlers have a dual with Plains in Hot Springs at 5.

On Saturday, the second hoop season begins for Glacier. The Wolfpack girls are home versus C.M. Russell, while the Wolfpack boys play CMR in Great Falls. Both games begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Polson Invitational wrestling tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. with a field of 13 teams.

And Ronan travels to Libby for a Northwestern A wrestling dual at 7 p.m.

Swimming also opens Saturday with the Flathead Invitational at The Summit. That starts at noon.

Area Class A and B basketball teams start play next week.
