Glacier, Flathead, Ronan win wrestling matches

MISSOULA - Glacier was in a pinning mood on Thursday, registering seven falls in a 62-15 Class AA wrestling dual victory over Missoula Big Sky.
Winning by pin for the Wolfpack, 2-0 in duals, were: Christian Knopp (98), Zach Barber (105), Cooper Sipe (125), Shane St. Onge (135), Riley Fisk (145), Clayton Hamilton (160) and John Frandsen (215).
St. Onge, Knopp, Barber, Sipe and Pisk are all freshmen.
"We're young, but they're stepping up," Glacier coach Mark Fischer said of his ninth-graders.
Cooper started the match with a first-period pin.
Fischer said St. Onge defeated a tough wrestler in Big Sky's Jacob Conklin.
Pisk made his varsity debut.
Glacier will compete in the Mining City Duals today and Saturday in Butte.

Flathead 78, Hellgate 6
MISSOULA - Missoula Hellgate got a pin at 98 pounds, but it was all Flathead for the remainder of the match as it earned points in the 14 other weight classes.
The Braves, now 2-0 in duals, won eight matches on pins, four by forfeit and two by decisions - Dan Jenkins (145) and Bryce Stacy (160).
Alexjandro Calderon (119), Joaquin Calderon (125), Tanner Beaman (135), Jeremiah Gaiser (140), Ian Damon (171), Jonah Franchi (189), Paul Streich (215) and Tyler Thomas (heavyweight) all won by pins.
The dual began at 105, which Hellgate forfeited to Jake Stuben.
Also winning by forfeit for FHS were Zack Reimnitz (112), Shawn Lau (130) and Ryan Thiel (152).
"They all wrestled pretty well," Flathead coach Matt Owen said.
"We had a ton of pins."
This was a perfect tune-up for the Mining City Duals today and Saturday in Butte. The Braves won this event for the first time last year, going 7-0 in dual competition. They dropped 2007 champ Havre 46-23 in the title match.
"The thing I wanted 'versus Hellgate) was to start gearing up for this weekend," Owen said.
"To start concentrating on being successful at the Mining City Duals."
