Vals spoil Southwestern A sweep

HAMILTON - It was almost a lost weekend for Northwestern A girls basketball teams at the Tip-Off Tournament.
Bigfork, however, prevented a sweep as the Valkyries upended Corvallis 54-38 on Saturday.
That was Northwestern A's lone victory against teams from Southwestern A, which won nine times in the two-day event.
Two contests - Frenchtown vs. Ronan and Hamilton vs. Polson - were canceled Saturday because of the weather.
Roxy Thurman turned in a strong offensive show for Bigfork, leading all scorers with 17 points. Mallery Knoll added 11.
Bigfork, 1-1, led 12-7 after the first period and finished with a 20-point fourth quarter.

Whitefish, 0-2, fell behind 16-4 and never recovered in falling to Dillon, 2-0, on the final day.
Kate Klundt was the bulk of Whitefish's offense as she scored 25 points. Klundt was near-perfect from the free throw line, going 9-for-10.

Torry Hill scored a tournament-high 34 points in leading Anaconda past Columbia Falls.
Hill was 10-for-12 shooting at the free throw line and also had 11 field goals.
Columbia Falls, 0-2, stuck with Anaconda, 2-0, for the first two quarters, trailing just 32-28 at the break.
Kayla Dewit scored 14 points to lead Columbia Falls, and Alyssa Ladenburg added 11.
