Hammond, Newell named all-state in Class B volleyball

Two members of the Eureka volleyball team have been named to the Class B all-state team in balloting by coaches.

They are: Carly Hammond, a 5-foot-8 junior left-side hitter, and Mariah Newell, a 5-11 senior middle hitter.

Hammond led the Lions in serving percentage, kills and digs.

Newell was a team leader in aces, second in blocks and second in hitting percentage.

Eureka won the District 7B regular season and tournament titles.

Also named all-state from 7B was Kyla Molzhon of Thompson Falls.

Colstrip had the most all-state selections with three. Huntley-Project, Missoula Loyola, Townsend and Choteau each had two.

The all-state list, which has 21 players, follows:

Eureka - Carly Hammond and Mariah Newell; Thompson Falls - Kyla Molzhon; Fairfield - Megan Anderson; Glasgow - Anna Breigenzer; Wolf Point - Alex Courtney; Florence - Kayla Daniels; Malta - Kylee Denham; Townsend - Siobhan Flynn and Becky Moudree; Huntley Project - Monica Hollowell and Teale Steffes; Three Forks - Shelby Mack; Missoula Loyola - Abby Mansch and Emma Priddy; Choteau - Marrissa McCormick and Ashley Vandolah; Colstrip - Kyla Neumiller, Myshado Rosado and Katrina West; and Columbus - Magan Patterson.
