Dorthey Getz, 90

| December 21, 2008 1:00 AM

Dorthey Getz, 90, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Brendan House in Kalispell. She and her twin brother were delivered by their grandmother at the family homestead on Sept. 15, 1918, in Enid. Her parents were Zola (Wyman) DuPuis and Gus DuPuis.

In her early years the family moved to Polson, where she attended school, graduating in 1937. Dorthey's parents parted and her mother eventually married Archie Moss in Polson during the Depression. He raised Dorthey and her siblings and was dearly loved by his family and grandchildren to come.

In 1938, Dorthey and Richard McLeod were married in Polson. Their daughter Janet was born in 1939. In 1941, they moved to Seattle, where their home became a haven for family and friends during World War II. Dorthey and her daughter moved to Kalispell in 1947.

During her working years she was employed at the Conrad Bank and County Courthouse.

In 1957, she and Wallace Getz were married in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They lived in Kalispell the remainder of their lives.

Dorthey was a very strong woman, dedicated to her family and friends. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren.

She enjoyed photography, rock hounding, ceramics, painting and traveling. She loved all of her many animals. She had a subtle 'sometimes, not so subtle) sense of humor that we all enjoyed.

Dorthey was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Getz; and her former husband, Richard McLeod; her parents, Zola and Archie Moss, and Ann and Gus DuPuis; sister, Enid Dupuis; brother, Donald DuPuis; granddaughter, Amy Molkjer; stepbrother, Duane Moss; and stepsister, Donna Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet; grandchildren, Steve, Scott and Kathryn Slack, Paula Dupree and husband, Cheyenne; brother, Edward DuPuis, and wife, Dorothy; stepsisters, Alma Rathbun and Vera Utzke; and stepbrother, Alan Franks.

Her family extends their appreciation to the caregivers at Brendan House, especially to her favorites (you know who you are), for their years of love, compassion and support. Thank you to her special friends, Dr. Richard Taylor and his wonderful staff.

It was Dorthey's request that no services be held. In loving memory of her uniqueness, it was her wish that you please pass on an act of kindness to someone in need in her remembrance.
