FarmHands group updating farm map
The Daily Inter Lake
The FarmHands group that began publishing maps of local farmers and producers a few years ago is looking for farmers who want to be included in a new 2009 map.
The group works to increase public appreciation of farming in the Flathead Valley and strengthen the bond between people who produce the food and the people who eat it.
Farmers who would like to be included may contact Kate at 250-2106 or e-mail kate@northrockpermaculture.com.
Farmers do not need to sell products directly to customers or accept visitors to their farms to participate. The deadline to submit updated or new information is Jan. 15, 2009.
ÊThe detailed FarmHands map shows the location and provides a description of more than 50 working farms.
It includes a harvest calendar, farmers market information, and lists restaurants and stores that serve locally harvested foods.
"Locals and visitors alike are beginning to realize the breadth of the valley's agricultural heritage," FarmHands organizer and local farmer Pam Gerwe said in a prepared statement.
