Artists sought for wilderness program

Montana artists are invited to apply for the 2009 Artist-Wilderness-Connection program, an artist-in-residence project that connects artists and local communities with wild lands.

Professional working artists of various disciplines, media and styles spend from seven to 14 days in a remote forest cabin on the Flathead National Forest to focus on their art.

After completing their residency, artists select a format to share their talents and residency experience with the community and donate a representative piece of their art to the Artist-Wilderness-Connection program.

Applications to participate in the 2009 program are available at www.hockadaymuseum.org/events.htm or by calling the Hockaday Museum of Art at 406-755-5268.

Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 28, 2009. Individuals and group collaborations are invited to apply. Three Montana artists will be selected for the 2009 program.

Photographer Larry Blackwood from Bozeman, writer Scott Friskics and musician Jennifer Smith from Great Falls participated in the 2008 program.

The program is sponsored by Flathead National Forest, Hockaday Museum of Art, Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation and the Swan Ecosystem Center.
