Morison, Rempe, Grubb in finals of state swimming

HARDIN - Glacier High School's Claire Morison and Phillip Rempe and Flathead's Allison Grubb have all qualified for the finals in two events after Friday's preliminaries at the State Swim Meet.

Morison finished sixth in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly while Rempe was fourth in the 200 individual medley and the fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Grubb placed fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle.

The top six finishers in the prelims advance to today's finals. Those finishing seventh through 12 in the prelims will swim in today's consolation finals.

No team totals were kept Friday.

Also qualifying for the finals were Glacier's Seth Bumgarner, fifth in the 200 individual medley and Flathead's Jacob Berry, fifth in the 100 freestyle.

Swimming in today's consolations finals will be: Glacier's Tessa Heck, 10th in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 100 backstroke; Kelsey Iblings, 10th in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke; and Brian Hoffman, 10th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 butterfly; and Flathead's Ashley Judd, seventh in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle.

"It couldn't have gone any better," said Paul Stelter, the head coach for Glacier and Flathead.

"They just swam unbelievable. Everyone had best times. Everyone was cheering for each other, it was just a beautiful day. It's a coach's dream to see a group support each other and swim to the extent they did."

The Glacier girls qualified two relays - 200 medley and 200 freestyle - for the finals. Both finished sixth.

The Glacier boys have one relay in the finals - 200 medley - and one in the consolation finals - 400 freestyle. The medley relay finished fifth and the freestyle relay seventh.

The Flathead boys have one relay in the consolation finals - 200 freestyle. That foursome finished 10th.

Swimming begins today at 11 a.m.
