Angelina 'Angie' Scherman, 94

| January 15, 2008 1:00 AM

Angelina "Angie" Scherman passed away at Immanuel Lutheran Home, where she had been residing for the last month. She was born on July 25, 1913, in Palms, Calif., to Nicasio Latasa and Eugenia Ardanaz Latasa, the first of seven children. The family farmed in the Los Angeles area where Angie was recruited at an early age as a farm hand.

She took pride in her ability to drive a team of horses and lift bales. She was very close with her brothers and sisters and traveled extensively with them in later years.

In 1948, she married George Scherman and together they had a son, George. After basking in the sun of southern California for 83 years she moved to Columbia Falls to be close to her son and daughter-in-law and her beloved grandsons, Jack and Sam.

Angie was quick to make friends and loved everyone. Her patience and willingness to help out was unlimited. She never dwelt on the negative.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Frank and Steve.

She is survived by her son, George, and his wife, Kate Kendall; grandsons, Jack and Sam Scherman; brother, Phil Latasa; sisters, Marie McDonald, Ellie Urricariet, and Dorothy Kiefer and her husband Art; stepdaughter, Dolores Rourke, and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Angie's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Glacier Unitarian Fellowship, 1515 Trumble Creek Road. Lunch will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbia Falls Senior Center.
