Forrest F. Spencer, 85

Forrest F. Spencer, 85, a longtime Libby resident, died on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Libby Care Center. He was born on May 13, 1923, in Libby, the son of Vern and Marie (Mitchell) Spencer. He attended school in Libby, graduating from Libby Senior High School in 1941.

He then attended college at the University of Montana in Missoula, until he entered World War II in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He played baseball on the local Libby town team. He was a logger for more than 40 years, worked for J. Neils Lumber Company and also Esbon Bache. He met and married Kay Vander Boegh, and they were married for 61 years.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to golf. He was a member of the Cabinet View Country Club and of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kay A. Spencer, of Libby; sons, David Spencer and wife, Dee, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Richard Spencer of Libby, and Lawrence Spencer and wife, Kari, of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the City of Libby Cemetery in Libby.
