Abbott repeats as Legend Thunder champ

Kory Abbott of Apopka, Fla., defended his pro class title by winning the main event in the 7th annual Legend Thunder at Montana Raceway Park on Saturday.
Local driver Wrango West finished second, with Jeremiah Wagner third.
Abbott is the first driver to win back-to-back Legend Thunder titles. Micah Sampson of Kalispell is the other driver to win the pro class twice. He did it in 2002 and 2004.
Jake Grosswiler of Kalispell, last year's runner-up, was 12th.
"It felt really good to win," Abbott said in a raceway press release.
"We had a bad weekend with practice and weren't running as good as I would have liked. Having Wrango close behind me made me nervous. He raced how I would have liked someone to race against me."
Grosswiler had the fast time for the pro legends, 14.8 seconds. He geared up for the main by winning the dash and placing fourth in the odd heat.
Abbott was fifth in the dash, but second in the even heat before the main.
Seventeen cars finished the pro main.
Also for Legends, Spike Schultze won the master main event and Matt Henderson took first in the semi-pro main.
Scott Dalla dominated the Thunder Roadsters. He posted the fast time, 14.147, and followed that by taking the checkered flag in the dash, heat and main event.
Dalla almost drew the mechanical flag when the hood on his car came loose with 10 laps remaining in the main. His car held together, however, and he held on for the win.
Tommy Kelley won the main event for the Bandoleros. He also had the fast time, 15.666.
Racing continues Saturday with the ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series Tundra 125. Super Late Models, Thunder Roadsters, Bandoleros and Rocky Mountain Street Machines are in action.
