Robert Lloyd Monk, 88

Robert Lloyd Monk, 88, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his home in Kalispell. He was born April 2, 1920, in Kalispell to Wallace and Grace (Haines) Monk.

Robert graduated from Washington Air College in 1943, and worked as a flight instructor in Pocatello, Idaho. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, mainly in the South Pacific.

Robert married LaDona Greer in 1943, in Long Beach, Calif. After the war they purchased the Monk Ranch in Pleasant Valley, which they still own and operate today. Robert was a cowboy, pilot, rancher, crop duster, real-estate broker and developer.

Robert was preceded in death by his only son, Roger Monk; his two brothers, Edward and Austin Monk; and two sisters, Louise Monk and Doris Daley.

He is survived by his wife, LaDona Monk; and three daughters, Myrna Matulevich of Kalispell, Marilyn McDougall of Kalispell, and Barbara Swartzenberger of Libby.

Memorial services for Robert will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, in the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral chapel. Urn burial will be afterward in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery, with military honors by the United Veterans of the Flathead.
