Linda Maney passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, at her home in Lakeside. She passed "quietly in the night" from natural causes. Linda, affectionately referred to by her friends and family as "Wop," was born on July 9, 1953, in Helena, to George and Florence (Scalise) Surman.

Linda attended grade school in Helena until the passing of her parents, when she moved to Butte to reside with her brother. Linda remained in Butte, attending school and making friends along the way.

In 1971, her life began when she met and married her true love, Joseph Maney. Joe and Linda gave birth to two daughters, Stephanie and Christie, and in 1979 the family relocated to Missoula, calling it home for many years.

In Missoula, Linda began a long and successful career as a certified nurse's assistant, caring for the sick and elderly. She was well-known and liked for her cheerful attitude and kind ways of assisting people in their time of need. Linda accumulated a long list of friends and acquaintances while providing comfort and support during their final days. She truly had a gift.

In recent years, Joe and Linda decided to "retire" and reside near Flathead Lake. Linda took a part-time job at the Blacktail Grocery, working as a cashier. They spent most of their time with local friends on or near the lake, sitting on the dock of the bay.

Linda's interests included softball, camping, floating and any social event that involved being around people. Her greatest joy in life, however, came from her family and friends. Aside from Joe, Linda's world revolved around her granddaughters, Ella and Evyn, and as anyone who knew her can attest, the girls were her pride and joy. She was looking forward to the birth of her first grandson in November. Ella and Evyn will miss their "Nana" and all the wonderful things she brought to their world.

Linda faced several lifetimes of adversity and challenges, but through it all she remained a positive, warm person. She was forever the ultimate cheerleader, always rooting for everyone to succeed and be happy. Linda loved to chat, catch up on old times, or just sit back and share a cold beer and listen to Joe play his guitar. She lived a lot of life in her short years. Her amazingly positive attitude, her bright smile and her willingness to give a hug whenever needed will be missed.

Linda is survived by her husband of 37 years, Joe Maney, of Lakeside; her daughter, Stephanie Maney, of Missoula; her daughter, Christie Anderson and husband, Paxton, of Logan, Utah; two granddaughters, Ella and Evyn, of Logan; special cousin, Martha Johnson, and her two sons, Brandon and Josh; and numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Linda Maney at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Fort Missoula, Fort Missoula Road entry. Please bring your special memories and photos to share with all.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Humane Society or a local food bank of choice.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Linda's family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to offer condolences and sign Linda's guest book.
