Distance runners will have another option this year regarding the Two Bear Marathon.

In addition to the marathon, race organizers have added a half marathon in response to many requests from the running community.

"The half marathon really opens the Two Bear experience up to a wider range of runners," Race Director Gayle Weinberg said in a press release.

"At 13.1 miles it's still a challenging run, but not quite as daunting as our full marathon."

Both races are set for Sunday, Sept. 21. The starting time for the marathon is 7:30 a.m. and the half marathon is 9. Both races will be limited to 300 runners.

Marathon runners must be 16 years of age or older, in good health and well trained. The marathon has a cut-off time of 6 1/2 hours (14:53 mile pace). All runners must be off the course by 2:30 p.m.

The half marathon course will start on Upper Whitefish Lake Road, quickly joining the second half of the full marathon course and finishing at The Wave on Baker Avenue in Whitefish.

The entry fees for either race is $75 until Aug. 21, $100 from Aug. 22-Sept. 20. The online registration deadline is Aug. 21.

All entry fees go to benefit the Wave Scholarship Fund, which provides low or no-cost memberships to The Wave for those in need.

Registration information and race details can be found at the race Web site: www.twobearmarathon.org.
