Mariners claim Dillon tourney

DILLON - Eric Locke was blasted two home runs and a double to help the Mission Valley Mariners down host Dillon 8-4 Sunday in the championship game of the Maybelle Arthur baseball tournament.
Locke, who was named offensive MVP of the tournament for the second straight year, was 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs in the championship game.
The Mariners started out on a hot note. Leadoff batter John Rausch singled on the first pitch of the game and Locke doubled on the second pitch of the game. Kyle Brown added a three-run homer in the second inning and Locke added a solo shot in the fourth and a two-run shot in the sixth.
The Mariners dropped their morning game, however, falling 11-8 to the Deer Lodge Wranglers.
Locke was 2-for-3 in that game and Matt Detwiler was 3-for-4.
Mission Valley (18-8) will be in Helena at 1 p.m. today to take on the Helena Reps in one 9-inning game.

WHITEFISH - Steve Bertelsen had a home run and three RBIs to help the Libby Loggers down Glacier Sunday in an American Legion Class A baseball game.
The Loggers (8-12, 4-0) won both games of a conference doubleheader, downing Glacier 9-1 in the first game and 9-3 in the second game.
Bertelsen was 4-for-5 at the plate in the second game and also pitched a complete game for the win.
"We didn't hit real well, but our pitchers picked us up. We had complete games from both," said Libby coach Kelly Morford.
Neither Bertelsen nor first game pitcher Derek Benefield issued any walks.
"That's nice to see," Morford said. It keeps you out of trouble.
The Loggers are on the road for their next game. They're in Polson at 4 p.m. Wednesday to take on the Mission Valley Mariners.
