Mariners in tourney title game

DEER LODGE - Mission Valley chalked up two more victories Saturday at the Deer Lodge Wood Bat Tournament to stay unbeaten in the American Legion baseball event.

Mission Valley toppled Fort Benton 16-2 and downed the Missoula Pioneers 8-5 in back-to-back morning contests.

Mission Valley, 3-0 in tournament play, faces Deer Lodge today at 11:30 a.m. The Mariners (23-9 overall) have already earned a spot in the today's championship game, which will be played at 5 p.m.

Mission Valley's Jay Sorrell tripled to center field with the bases loaded to drive in the first three runs of a 10-run third inning against Fort Benton.

Mission Valley slapped 16 hits in the contest. Josh Reed and Sorrell both went 3-for-4 for the Mariners. Sorrell had a game-high four RBIs.

Against the Pioneers, John Rausch, 3-for-3, doubled and finished with three RBIs. Nick Fell, 3-for-4, also drove in three runs.

Mission Valley scored in every inning while Missoula tallied five runs in the sixth.
