Mariners rips Salmon twice

POLSON - Mission Valley went on the offensive Saturday, blowing out Salmon, Idaho, 23-0 and 14-2 in a Class A American baseball conference doubleheader.

The Mariners, 6-0 in league and 33-9 overall, had 19 hits in the opener, led by Eric Locke's 4-for-4 performance. He clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth inning to left center and doubled in his other three trips to the plate.

Locke leads the team in HRs with six and in doubles with 17. He had six RBIs in the game.

Teammate Kyle Brown went 3-for-3.

Spencer Trawick went the distance on the mound for the Mariners in the first game. He gave up three singles, fanned 10, issued two walks and hit one batter.

Tyler Linse, 2-for-2, smacked a three-homer in the fifth inning of the second game to power the Mariners. His shot went to left field and it was his second blast of the season. He finished with five RBIs.

Derrick Rathe was the winning pitcher in the finale. He allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked three.

Mission Valley is back in action today for a doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m., in Hamilton with the Bitterroot Red Sox.
