Loyola rolls over Eureka

HAMILTON - It turned out to be a long evening for the Eureka girls' basketball team.

Loyola Sacred Heart outscored Eureka in every quarter en route to a 53-28 Western B divisional semifinal victory on Friday.

Loyola led Eureka 25-17 at the half and held the Lions to under 10-point scoring in every quarter.

"We kinda ran out of gas," Eureka coach John Hammond said. "We had a rough third quarter."

Loyola held Eureka to four points in that quarter to take a 37-21 lead.

"We didn't move the ball around as well as we needed to," Hammond said.

"They opened it up."

Mariah Newell paced Eureka with 15 points. Loyola's Christina Medeiros led all scorers with 19.

Loyola advances to tonight's championship game at 8 at Dale Berry Court with Deer Lodge.

Eureka will tangle with Plains today at 9:30 a.m. in loser-out action. Eureka has beaten Plains three times this season.
