Fredrick “Fred” Arthur Lindberg, 60

Fredrick "Fred" Arthur Lindberg, 60, died March 13, 2008, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center of multiple medical complications. Fred was born July 21, 1947, in Denver, the second son to Arthur Fredrick and Elizabeth Cora Churchill Lindberg.

Fred graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Denver, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geology and chemistry from Metropolitan State College in Denver. He studied glacial geology in Iceland and worked in the oil and gas industry as an organic geo-chemist while living in Colorado.

In Montana he was employed in woodworking and the semiconductor industry until his last position with the Hungry Horse and Coram Water System as a certified water operator. He was involved in his local community water systems for over 35 years. Fred specialized in research and development and earned two U.S. patents.

He is published independently and co-authored in professional journals including "Solid-State Technology," 'Semiconductor Fabtech" and "Journal of Geochemical Exploration."

He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Colorado Scientific Society and Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. He was honored to be a judge for chemistry and geology at the Colorado State Science Fair for several years.

He was a member of the Mayflower descendants, as well.

Fred married Margaret "Meg" Elaine Weaks on Nov. 30, 1986, in Alamosa, Colo. They made their home in Tiny Town, Colo., until moving to Hungry Horse, in 1992.

Fred was preceded in death by his older brother, Ronald Harry Lindberg, and both his father and mother.

He is survived by his wife, Meg; and two sons, Stephen Jack Lindberg of Belfair, Wash., and Ronald Tate Lindberg, wife Laura and grandson Taylor Kent, of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.

His extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, work associates, friends and neighbors remember Fred as extensively well-read and knowledgeable, with an endearing spirit. He took pride in completing his log home and he and his wife Meg became proficient in organic gardening. He loved fishing, camping and canoeing.
