Fred I. Danielson, 86

Fred I. Danielson, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Brendan House in Kalispell after an extended illness. He was born April 2, 1921, in Kalispell to Oscar and Alma (Johnson) Danielson. He was raised in Kalispell, attended Egan Elementary and graduated from Flathead County High School.

Fred also attended technical school in mechanics for four years and became a certified master mechanic.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years, with HHC 711th Railway Battalion, and was stationed in Persia (Iran) during World War II. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.

On Oct. 3, 1945, Fred married Gladys M. Baldwin at Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage in Kalispell.

Fred was a mechanic for Stoops, Stockton and Himsl-Wohlwend Motors, in Kalispell. He retired in 1982 as a parts man and mechanic, from Columbia Falls Aluminum Co.

Fred liked sports, especially baseball. He played with the Kalispell Legion team.

His hobbies included fishing mainly, as well as hunting.

He was always willing to help others, and was very mechanical and meticulous in every task he undertook. He also enjoyed Glacier National Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Pete G. and John R. Danielson; and one sister, Irene, at an early age.

Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys M. (Baldwin) Danielson, of Kalispell; one son, Robert D. Danielson, of Kalispell; grandson, Greg Danielson, and Kari, of Butte; stepgrandson, James Arnold, and wife Julie, of Columbia Falls; great-grandchild, Alexxis M. Danielson, of Butte; sisters-in-law, Maggie Danielson, Edna Johnson and Dorthy Baldwin, and brother-in-law, Merle and Jeanie Baldwin, all of Kalispell; brother-in-law, Bert and Inez Baldwin, of Buffalo, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. March 25 at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
