Shirley Flo Beringer passed away March 15, 2008.

She was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Reford and Lois Winningham. The family moved to Clovis, Calif., and then to Santa Ana, Calif., where Shirley graduated from high school.

She married Vernon Beringer on Jan. 28, 1945, in Santa Ana. They raised their daughter, Susan, in the Los Angeles area where Shirley worked as a medical secretary in several hospitals.

She and Vernon moved to Austin, Texas, in 1973 where Shirley worked for the State of Texas as a secretary in the Office of the Governor. Following Vernon's death in 1978, she moved to the Washington, D.C., area and worked in the Washington office of the State of Texas. She was active in the Lady Lion's Club in both Texas and in the D.C. area.

Shirley retired in 1992 and moved to Lakeside in 1996. There she contributed her time to programs for the aging and to the Lakeside Friends of the Library. These activities earned her a nomination as Senior Citizen of the Year in 2000. She moved to Golden, Colo., in 2006.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, and by her brother Porter.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan, and her husband, Gregory, of Arvada, Colo.; and by grandson, Joseph, and his wife, Misty, and three great-grandchildren, Conner, Kylie and Collin, of Bigfork.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Lakeside Community Chapel in Lakeside.
