Most roads in Glacier National Park remain closed because of snow and ice, but parts of Going-to-the-Sun Road are open, with exclusive access for hikers and bikers on both sides of the park.

Park plow crews have advanced about two miles beyond the Loop on the west side of Logan Pass.

Hikers and bikers can travel about 17 miles beyond a vehicle gate at Lake McDonald Lodge over the weekend.

There will be an access restriction just below the Loop Monday through Friday.

East of Logan Pass, plows have cleared nearly four miles of Sun Road from a vehicle gate at Rising Sun to the Sun Point area. That stretch of road can be used by hikers and bikers over the weekend.

The road into the Many Glacier Valley will remain closed this weekend.

There has been considerable plowing progress at Many Glacier, but the road remains icy and unsafe, said Melissa Wilson, Glacier's public affairs officer.

All of the park's other major roads remain closed because of persistent snow, including the Two Medicine, Camas and Inside North Fork roads.

"We just haven't had the temperatures to help us melt out the snow," Wilson said.
