Television show features Flathead Lake home
The Daily Inter Lake
A green home built into a cliff overlooking Flathead Lake stars today on the Discovery Channel's "World's Greenest Homes" series.
Scheduled to air at 4 p.m., the show focuses on the home built by James Boyes and Mary Laud that features a planted green roof, local rocks, locally cut wood, salvaged logs, recycled stone and tile, used and antique furnishings and low-water gardens with many native plants.
Boyes drew on his professional skills as a contractor in building the 2,400 square foot home. His business, A Different Perspective, specializes in innovative designs.
Laud, a painter, carver and sculptor, exhibited her artistry on the home's interior which features carved owls, bats, robins and squirrels on the kitchen bar and cabinet tops.
According to Boyes, their home located a few miles south of Lakeside took about a year to build.
"We had an extremely tight budget," he said.
He said the time was extended somewhat by a problem with a concrete contractor but the finished product made all the hard work worthwhile.
Boyes' and Laud's unique home also was featured in the March/April edition of Natural Home magazine.
