Bigfork shocks Corvallis in Class A soccer playoffs

CORVALLIS - Upstart Bigfork knocked off previously undefeated Corvallis 1-0 on Friday in Class A boys soccer playoff action.

Derek Minemyer scored off a corner kick by Taylor Ingram two minutes into the second half.

"First play down the field after the half," Bigfork coach Keith Koslosky said.

"We got a corner."

Koslosky said Ingram directed "a beautifully low-driven ball that the keeper might have gotten a hand on it. Derek came from the back post and put it in. Redirected it. It was wonderful."

Corvallis was the top-seeded team from Southern A. The Blue Devils were 10-0 in league play, 11-0-1 overall.

Bigfork, the third seed from Northern A, improves to 3-7-2.

"Just a hard-fought game," Koslosky said.

"Up-and-down. I would say they put it to us early, but then they seemed a little tight. We settled down 15 minutes in and started hammering them, controlling the ball."

Koslosky said with Bigfork up 1-0 and 20 minutes left in the match, "they seemed to get real tight; maybe a little panic set it. We just played fantastic as a team."

Koslosky said Minemyer and David Myers "cleaned everything up in the back in the last 20 minutes."

Bigfork received another solid effort by keeper Zac Hansen. He had four saves. Corvallis outshot Bigfork 22-8.

"Probably his best game in goal to date," Koslosky said.

"Again, just a tremendous team effort. Senior leadership (Taylor Ingram, Zach

Hanson, David Myers, Matt Zlastelica, Stueart Koch, Matt McGady) was outstanding."

Bigfork will face the winner of today's Libby at Livingston match. That semifinal match will take place the following week.

"We've put ourselves in the top four, that's pretty nice," Koslosky said.

"I like that. That's a nice achievement for the boys. These boys have just played their hearts out."
