Glacier boys blank Big Sky

MISSOULA - Jared Rice and Cole Eddie both scored goals as Glacier defeated Missoula Big Sky on Friday 2-0 in Western AA soccer play.
Rice scored at 38 minutes, assisted by Ryan Corbett, and Eddie at 67 minues.
It was Rice's second goal of the season and the first for Eddie.
"We controlled the ball well," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.
"Big Sky defended well for a lot of the game. In the end, we started to connect our passes to the midfield."
Glacier, 1-2, plays at Missoula Hellgate on Tuesday. Big Sky falls to 0-1.

WHITEFISH - Whitefish got on the board first, but Billings Central tied it on a penalty kick at 46 minutes as the two teams battled to a tie in Class A nonconference play.
Travis Adams scored for Whitefish at eight minutes with Mac Adams assisting.
"We started out all right," Whitefish coach O'Brien Byrd said.
"The longer we went without scoring a goal, the more frustrated we became, the more we tried to force it, make it happen. Then it got pretty sloppy. But full credit to Billings Central, they fought us tooth and nail the whole game and never let down."
Whitefish, 1-0-1 on the season, hosts Laurel, 2-0, today at noon. Billings Central moves to 1-1-1.

BELGRADE - Libby scored twice in the first half and added another goal in the second for an easy Class A nonconference victory.
Libby outshot Belgrade 14-7 on goal.

Ryan Thompson and Wes Hallibarton both scored two goals in leading Stillwater Christian School to an easy victory in the Cougar Classic at SCS.
Thompson also assisted on three goals and Hallibarton on two.

MISSOULA - Glacier managed to escape with a tie, thanks to a goal by Morgan Zauner in the 80th minute in this Western AA matchup.
That goal came came off a corner kick.
"It came through the middle, she was up on the outside," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said of Zauner's shot.
"She dropped it in over the top of the goalie and under the crossbar from 25 yards out.
"It was really exciting," he continued.
"The girls played awesome. It was an extremely fast game up and down the field."
Holmgren said Maddey Frey had four shots off the post.
"We had a lot of shots," Holmgren said.
"Good shots; we weren't converting them."
Glacier, 0-2-1, plays at Missoula Hellgate on Tuesday.

BOZEMAN - Mackenzie Reeve accounted for both Columbia Falls' goals, one in each half in the Class A nonconference match.
Assisting on the scores were Cedar Jordt and Julia Burgi.
"For the first match of the season, it was a game that could have gone either way," Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said.
"We're a pretty new team a young team. We made some mistakes. We have some work to do."
Columbia Falls outshot Livingston 23-12.
