Wolfpack finish third, Flathead winds up fifth at tip-off event

There was just about enough volleyball for everybody at Saturday's 2008 Kalispell Tip-Off Volleyball Tournament.

Among the six varsity teams at Glacier, Great Falls finished as the top team.

Both the Bison and the CMR Rustlers wound up with 7-1 records, but Great Falls won the tiebreaker on total points.

The Glacier Wolfpack was third with a 5-3 record, followed by Libby and Flathead, fourth and fifth, respectively with 2-6 records. Whitefish was sixth at 1-7.

"I think things went pretty well," Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

"Everybody got a lot of playing. There was a good level of competition there. Things were good. Everything was on time. The kids got a lot of playing."

She was especially happy with Glacier's 5-3 record, considering Glacier middle hitter Emilee Hashley rolled an ankle early in the Wolfpack's second match of the day.

"We had to throw plan 'A' into the hopper and start over again," Harkins said.

The Wolfpack, with its subvarsity teams all at Flathead for that part of the invitational, started the day with nine athletes.

Hashley's injury dropped Glacier to eight players.

"We had to try a whole new lineup for the second game and we had a whole new learning curve after that," she said.

The Wolfpack plays host Tuesday to Missoula Hellgate. Varsity game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
