Eleanor M. “Ellie” Dern, 70, of Kalispell, died at her home Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.

Ellie was born on March 5, 1938, in Kalispell. She received her education in the Flathead Valley, and spent most of her life in the valley raising her daughter and caring for her mother.

Ellie touched many people's lives through her genuine kindness and delightful nature. She loved gardening and providing a loving home to her pets.

Ellie was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Pierson-Schmauch; her father, Kenneth Dern; her daughter, Rolene Gale Dern; and her sister, Frances Tyler.

Survivors include her nieces, Jolen Mahrt of Helena, and Kim Miller of Corvallis; and a nephew, Mike Miller, of Clinton.

No funeral services will be held. A private memorial will be held at a future date.
