Glacier girls 1 goal short for 3rd time

Wolfpack boys handle Hellgate, 3-2; Stillwater ties Bigfork

MISSOULA - It was another tough loss for the Glacier High School girls' soccer team on Tuesday.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but fell to Missoula Hellgate 4-3 in Western AA play.

Glacier, 0-3-1, has now lost three times this season by a total of three goals.

"We gave ourselves a lot of opportunities," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said.

"The few times we let up, Hellgate seemed to be right there to take advantage."

Maddey Frey scored twice for Glacier, while Sydney Sharaf had an assist and a goal.

Callie Woody scored Hellgate's first two goals off corner kicks, and Nicole Wilkins the final two.

"Up front, Maddey and Sid had a pretty game," Holmgren said.

"Good looks at the goal."

Glacier is back in action Thursday, hosting Helena Capital at 5 p.m.

Evan McLellan scored his first two goals of the season and Jared Rice accounted for the other as the Wolfpack improved to 2-2 in Western AA play.

After a 1-1 tie at the half, Glacier went on top 3-1.

"It was a very intense game," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said. "Hellgate is a well-coached team."

McLellan scored the first and last goals of the match.

"A very skilled player," O'Rourke said of McLellan.

"He knows where to put the ball. He had two gorgeous goals."

Rice scored at 43 minutes. He leads the team in scoring with three goals.

Glacier hosts Helena Capital on Thursday, 3 p.m.

BIGFORK - Zane Kloekl scored at 60 minutes to tie it for Stillwater in the nonconference matchup.

Bigfork took a 2-1 lead on two goals by Alec MacCallum.

Also scoring for Stillwater was Nate Bush at 14:48, which tied it at 1.

"Great game," Stillwater coach Timothy Anderson said.

"Stillwater and Bigfork played good soccer.

"Great defense from Brenton Hemp, Jeremy Curtis, and Jake Meerkatz fended off several attacks from Bigfork and kept us in this game."

Bigfork hosts Whitefish on Thursday. Bonners Ferry, Idaho, plays at SCS (4-1-3) on Tuesday.
