Glacier slips by Hellgate

MISSOULA - George Werk and Shay Smithwick-Hann hooked up on a 71-yard touchdown pass with 1:38 to play Friday night to give Glacier a dramatic 27-20 victory over Missoula Hellgate in Western AA football action.

The winning score came on a third-and-15 play.

"George ran a wheel route, caught the ball, cut back across the grain and made several people miss," Glacier assistant coach Mark Harkins said.

"It was fantastic.

"It was a great win," Harkins continued.

"Both teams played so hard."

Hellgate drove to the Glacier 30 in the final minute, but failed to score.

Smithwick-Hann had four touchdown passes on the night. He connected with Werk twice (25 yards on the first one) and Taylor Graham twice (23 and 35 yards).

Smithwick-Hann completed 15-of-34 passes for 270 yards.

Hellgate (0-3) tied the game at 20-all in the fourth quarter on a 26-yard pass from Sean Hall to Steve DeYoung.
