Glacier spikers show improved play on first day of pool play

GREAT FALLS - Improvements are coming by leaps and bounds for the Glacier Wolfpack volleyball team.

The Wolfpack finished Friday at 4-10 in pool play at the Electric City Invitational.

Glacier, in the Great Falls High pool, split with Capital (20-10, 19-20), Great Falls (15-20, 20-17) and Havre (20-16, 19-20), but lost to Skyview (20-17, 20-7), Senior (20-16, 20-9) and Bozeman (20-14, 20-18).

No stats were taken for the day.

"There were moments of greatness," smiled Glacier head coach Christy Harkins.

"We passed so much better. We got a lot better.

"We got a lot of playing against high quality competition. Our pool was really strong. There were some great teams there.

"I thought we got better today. We were doing a lot of good things by the end of the day."

Harkins was proud of several efforts on the day - the split with Great Falls High, and playing 3-time defending state champion Billings Senior to 20-16.

"I was proud of that. That's playing tough and playing fast," she said.

Glacier was without middle hitter Kendra Bouley. Bouley rolled an ankle in Thursday's 4-game loss to Billings Skyview.

"But we adapted to that. Other kids stepped up. There are a lot of positives that we can build off of today," she added.

The Wolfpack begins play at 11 a.m. today against Sentinel.

Flathead High, playing in the CMR pool, was 1-13 on the day.

The Bravettes split with Big Sky (20-19, 7-20), but lost to Billings West (7-20, 12-20), Lewistown (17-20, 7-20), Butte (12-20, 11-20), CMR (9-20, 8-20) and Helena High (10-20, 12-20).
