Jackson, Pete lift C-Falls in boys' soccer

COLUMBIA FALLS - Chase Jackson and Travis Pete sparked Columbia Falls offensively as the Wildcats broke into the win column for the first time this season with a 5-3 Northern A boys' soccer victory on Saturday over Bigfork.

Jackson scored four goals and assisted on one, while Pete scored a goal and assisted on two.

Grant Getts also had an assist.

The five goals in a match was a season high for Columbia Falls, 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league.

Jackson leads the team in scoring with seven goals.

"I think we were really in a must-win situation," Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said.

"It's just great to get a win. We have some young kids who are learning. Sometimes that leaves us vulnerable. Hopefully we'll just go game-by-game and get better every week."

Browne said Getts, Pete, Jackson and Uriah Keller rallied the team.

"They were pretty much the glue today," he said.

"They held the team together."

Columbia Falls is back in action Thursday at Libby, 3:30 p.m.

Bigfork plays at Whitefish on Tuesday.

POLSON - Cree Maloney and Kyle Berke both scored two goals to help Libby cruise past Polson in a Northern A match.

Nick Reny had the other goal for the Loggers.

Evan May, David Brooks and Reny had assists.

Both teams finished with 11 shots on goal.

Libby moves to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in league..

"Lewis Brossman, our keeper, stopped two penalty kicks," Libby coach Charlie Webster said.

"Very impressive. Both were in the second half,"

Libby hosts Columbia Falls on Thursday and Whitefish on Saturday.

POLSON -The Libby Loggers took 28 shots against Polson goalie Jacie Morrison, who allowed just one goal in the first half. But in the second half, Libby got three more by Morrison.

Anna Valentine led the Loggers with two goals in the match.

"It was a tough game," said Libby coach Matt Warner. "Polson came out strong. Our defense did a good job protecting the goal."

Libby goalkeeper Christina Schilling turned in a superb performance.

"Christina had a beautiful save to keep the shutout," said Warner.

Jess Shaw and Jenny Johnson each added a goal apiece, helping Libby improve to 6-1 for the season.

Libby hosts Columbia Falls on Thursday and Whitefish on Saturday.
