Glacier boys hold slim lead on Billings West

BUTTE - Glacier's golfers are in a familiar spot.
The Wolfpack, as a team, are on top in boys' play after first-day action Thursday at the Anaconda/Butte Invitational.
Glacier's No. 1 player Larry Iverson is just two shots off the pace, firing a 2-over-par 74 at the Old Works Course.
The Glacier boys had three players in the top 15 and turned in a 309 total to hold a one-point advantage on Billings Senior, 310. Billings West is third, 311, and C.M. Russell of Great Falls is fourth, 312.
Flathead, 341, is 11th.
Jake Hedge of West had the best round of the day, carding a 72.
Glacier's Aaron Young shot a 75, which tied him for third place, along with Flathead's Ian Gillespie.
Justin Newton of Glacier is tied for 11th with a 76.
In girls' play, C.M. Russell, 327, is sitting first with West, 333, second, and Bozeman, 353, third.
Glacier, 376, is fifth and Flathead, 421, 15th.
Erin King of West shot a 76 to led the girls. Natalie Beara of CMR is second, 78.
Karli Aurich shot an 89 to pace Glacier. Sarah Cunningham, 92, had the best round for Flathead.
Second-round play begins today at 10 a.m. at the Butte Country Club
