Evergreen planning idea dropped

A fledgling effort to possibly create a neighborhood land-use plan for Evergreen has been withdrawn.

Evergreen businessman Alan Gilbertson floated the trial balloon by the Flathead County commissioners a few weeks ago, and he told the commissioners Thursday that the proposal is withdrawn.

People at a March 21 Evergreen community meeting overwhelmingly rejected the idea.

"No one spoke in favor of it," Gilbertson said. He said he received 'some positive feedback" after the meeting.

That meeting led to a petition drive that sent 116 signatures -including Gilbertson's - to the commissioners on Thursday to oppose the concept.

Gilbertson said some community meetings might be called in the future to look at other Evergreen issues.
