Flathead rallies by Libby in softball

LIBBY - Flathead used a four-run fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead en route to a 6-3 nonconference softball victory Thursday evening over Libby.

It was the season opener for Flathead.

Libby drops to 2-2 overall.

Nickole Lapka, 2-for-3, and Jaime Gilden, 2-for-4, paced Libby offensively. Lapka doubled twice. Gilden had an RBI.

"We left a few (runners on base) and so did they," Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

"It was an evenly matched game."

Flathead travels to Great Falls on Saturday to face C.M. Russell, noon, and Great Falls High, 2 p.m., in Class AA play.

Libby is off until April 17 with a Class A doubleheader in Havre. The first game starts at 4 p.m.

LIBBY - The Libby boys swept singles play to edge Polson 4-3, while the Polson girls won all three doubles matches and took two more wins in singles play for a 5-2 dual win.

Libby's Jackie Mee and Alex Cislo both won at No. 1 singles.

Libby Time Trials' LIBBY - Eureka's Luke Truman posted some impressive numbers in the weight events.

Truman hit 152-11 in the discus and threw the shot 44-8 1/2.

Libby's Seth Wright won the high jump, clearing 6-6, and the triple jump, 42-9 3/4. Aaron Palmer of Troy threw the javelin 183-2.
