Glacier tracksters get going: Boschee, Pitt qualify for state with high jumps

GREAT FALLS - Glacier's Lexy Boschee and Stacey Pitt spent the last day of spring break in an unlikely destination and it paid off.

At a triangular track meet between Glacier, Missoula Big Sky and Great Falls on Friday, Boschee and Pitt eclipsed the state qualifying standard for the high jump to earn automatic bids to the state championship meet.

Boschee, a freshman, won the event by clearing 5-foot-6, while Pitt, a sophomore, took third (5-2). Pitt placed second in the pole vault (8-6).

Glacier's Heather Fraley brought home a first-place finish in the 1,600 with a winning time of 5:44. Fraley placed fifth at state in the 1,600 last year.

The Great Falls boys team won with 72 points, while Glacier finished third with 43.5. On the girls side, defending state champion Big Sky won with 99 points. Glacier took third with 32 points.

It was the first meet this season for the Wolfpack, which fielded less than half of its team because of spring break. Nevertheless, girls head coach Jerry Boschee thought it was an important day for the team.

"It's a good starting point for us," he said. "We had a lot of inexperience, but they went out there and weren't intimidated and competed. And now they have at least one meet under their belt."

Glacier's Taylor Graham won the triple jump (40-10 1/2) and finished second in the long jump (19-11 1/2). He also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Dan Burfiend took second in both the 800 and 1,600. In the 800, he came within a second of first place with a time of 2:12.
