Plan board votes against four-plex

The Kalispell Planning Board is recommending that the City Council deny a conditional-use permit for a four-plex apartment building in the Three Mile Views subdivision.
The board voted 6-0 Tuesday to recommend rejection.
Steven Maw wants to build a four-plex on the southwest side of Vista Loop, which contains single-family houses.
Four neighbors objected to the proposal at Tuesday's public hearing and presented letters from two other neighbors who also protested the proposals.
Their arguments focused on the proposed four-plex hurting property values, adding traffic to narrow streets, and blocking part of the subdivision's views of the mountains.
Maw said he had built a similar four-plex in a similar neighborhood elsewhere without any ill effects, that the four-plex's off-street parking would alleviate traffic concerns, and the building could be angled so the view blocking would be minimal.
Also Tuesday, the board recommended that the council annex 2.48 acres with general business zoning about 500 feet west of the intersection of U.S 93 South and Cemetery Road.
Owner Neil Bertelsen currently has no plans for the site.
