Protesters to picket at local video store

A group opposed to the proliferation of pornography in the Flathead Valley has organized a protest outside a Kalispell video store that carries X-rated films.

The group, Flathead Advocates for Decency, plans to picket outside the Movie Gallery on East Idaho Street from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday and again on April 24 and 25.

The group's stated objective is to protect the community and its children from obscenity. Group members recently completed a threat assessment of area businesses to determine which ones sell pornography that may cross the line into obscenity, which is illegal.

Part of the group's goal is to compel city and county officials to enforce anti-obscenity ordinances.
