Columbia Falls City Attorney Eric Kaplan will submit his resignation to the City Council at its regular meeting tonight.

In turn, the council will consider appointing partners in Kaplan's law firm to fill the vacancies - Justin Breck as city attorney and Stephanie Breck as deputy city attorney.

The council also will give a second reading to an ordinance rezoning a parcel of land along Meadow Lake Boulevard, lying between U.S. 2 West and Best Way, from light industrial to residential apartment.

It will pave the way for an expected application to build an assisted living facility there.

Members of the River's Edge Park Committee will present recommendations and findings they have formulated for developing the city's new 28-acre park along the Flathead River. The council will hear an overall trail plan recommendation; Michael Baier will report on a kiosk there and Josh Coville will report on a park sign.

Council members also will hear of a council appointment that needs to be made on the committee.

A resolution giving notice of intention to create a special improvement district is on the agenda, as are notices of three public hearings:

n The zoning map amendment and preliminary plat proposal for Fifth Street Homes, a Habitat for Humanity development that the Planning Board recommended for approval;

n A Community Development Block Grant public hearing soliciting comment on community needs for public facilities, economic development and housing;

n Community Transportation Enhancement Program projects.

City Manager Bill Shaw will report on repairs to the Pinewood Park pool, water system upgrades needed before street reconstruction projects can start, and permissibility of shipping containers stored on private property.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in City Hall.
